A general cargo ship scheduled to transport metal pipes to Romania, under a supply contract with the United States was struck during a Russian ballistic missile attack at the port of Odesa on Friday, the second hit on an international merchant ship in the Black Sea this month. The 6,315 dwt vessel, the Golden Lion, sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, sustained damage, and two crew crew were injured. The missile strike also damaged infrastructure at theUkrainian port.
A Saint Kitts and Nevis-flagged bulk carrier was struck by a Russian-launched missile on September 11 after departing from the port of Chornomorsk, Ukraine.
The 27,239 dwt bulker Aya, which was transporting grain to Egypt, sustained damage to its port side, including a cargo hold and a crane. It marked the first strike on a commercial ship in the Black Sea this year and comes at a time when the Russian navy has moved considerably more resources into the region.
