Milan-listed product tanker owner and operator d’Amico International Shipping (DIS) has boosted its owned fleet by declaring an option on a modern MR vessel it has on charter.

The Carlos di Mottola-led company has snapped up the 2018 Japan Marine United-built High Navigator for $34.3m.

The 49,999 dwt ship, currently listed on pricing platform VesselsValue as worth nearly $47m will be delivered by Japanese owner Murakami Sekiyu between Q1 and Q2 2025.

“This acquisition not only expands our owned MR fleet but also allows us to secure a modern and efficient vessel at a very attractive price, which is approximately 26% below its current market value,” DIS chief executive di Mottola said.

DIS has exercised purchase options on eight MR tankers since 2023, including the High Navigator, which has been on time charter since delivery in May 2018. The company’s fleet stands at 33 product carriers, of which 26 are currently owned.
