Greek owner Costamare has continued its dry bulk fleet renewal, revealing a trio of purchases during the past quarter.
The New York-listed company led by Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos has snapped up a pair of ultramaxes from German owner Oldendorff Carriers for an undisclosed price. Brokers have placed the en bloc deal at $50m.
The 2014-built Alwine Oldendorff and a year younger 61,090 dwt sister vessel August Oldendorff are expected for delivery in the fourth quarter of this year and in the first quarter of 2025, respectively.
Costamare has also bolstered the larger bulker segment with the acquisition of the 2011-built capesize Nord Magnes from Danish owner Norden in a deal reported at $31.5m. The 179,600 dwt ship should join the company’s fleet by Q1 2025.
In addition, the company agreed the sale of the 2012-built, handy bulker Discovery. The 37,019 dwt unit should change hands in the fourth quarter and deliver net proceeds of about $7.7m.
Costamare entered the dry sector in 2021 and today owns 39 bulkers on a fully delivered basis with a capacity of about 3.05m dwt, but it also has a 56-strong trading platform CBI consisting of newcastlemaxes, capes and kamsarmaxes, in addition to a fleet of 68 containerships.
