Norwegian energy major Equinor has awarded a contract for plug and abandonment services on the Oseberg East field off Norway to oilfield services giant Baker Hughes.

The plug and abandonment campaign planning phase, as well as its execution across several wells in the North Sea, will be led by Baker Hughes’ mature assets solutions team.

This project follows the March 2025 signing of a multi-year framework agreement between Baker Hughes and Equinor for the provision of integrated P&A services.

Planning for Oseberg East is now underway, and the execution is scheduled to begin in 2026.

To manage the project, the US firm will establish a P&A Centre of Excellence in Bergen and Stavanger. This hub of expertise will bring together project managers and subject matter experts to centralise P&A activities in the North Sea.
